John Salo of the Port Arthur Curling Club (with Brian Adams, Jr., Jonah Dupuis, and Justin McCarville) won the COURTESY FREIGHT CURLING CLASSIC in Thunder Bay, a first time event on the MCT, beating clubmate Jeff Currie 8-7 in an extra end final last night (Sunday, Dec.4th).
The victory was Salo’s second on the tour this season (his team won the LAKE OF THE WOODS DAYS INN CASH SPIEL in Kenora last month), and was worth $4,500. Currie earned $3,000 as the runner-up.
All the money winners were from Thunder Bay; Trevor Bonot and Denis Malette received $2,000 apiece for reaching the semi-finals, while Al Hackner, Bryan Burgess, Joe Scharf, and Marshall Bagdon picked up $1,100 each by qualifying for the playoff quarter-finals (28 teams-8 qualifiers).
