CALGARY’S Shannon Kleibrink was a convincing winner in her pre-Olympic battle with the U.S.A.’s Cassie Johnson at the MTS Centre yesterday.
But the war over which country — Canada or the U.S. — has the better system for choosing their Olympic curling representatives will have to be settled on the ice next month at the Winter Olympics in Turin.

WINNIPEG — Jeff Stoughton may not be heading to the Olympic Games next month, but he has enough cash to buy a big-screen TV to watch the curling action from Italy.
Stoughton and his Winnipeg foursome won $30,000 Sunday after defeating Calgary’s John Morris 7-6 in the 11th end of the BDO Classic Canadian Open final in front of 5,003 fans at the MTS Centre.

Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue and Alberta’s Shannon Kleibrink had no sooner won their respective Canadian Olympic curling trials finals in Halifax when they readily acknowledged the pressure that will be on their squads to win gold medals at the Olympics in Pinerolo, Italy, Feb. 13-24.
