Chris Jensen / WCT Writer

(Jan 7, 2006) — (Jan. 6, 2006) — WINNIPEG - They had control pretty well from the onset of the match…that’s Team Ferbey we’re talking about. After allowing Brad Gushue and his team a deuce in the first end, the Ferbey Four took over scoring a deuce of their own in ends two and four, a steal of one in five, a steal of two in six, followed by another steal in the seventh end,and then it was handshakes - Team Ferbey 8, Team Gushue 3.

“This is just a test (meaning the games)at going four and zero…in that pool with Morris, Fenson, Gushue and Fry, says a lot..” said Randy. “It’ll be nice to have the rest…‘til Saturday’s quarter-final match.” Gushue is now one win and two losses and will now face Pete Fenson (one and two) in their last round-robin game.

The other key marquee match-up had the defending Olympic and European champion, Pal Trulsen from Oslo, Norway up against last years WCT Canadian Open champion, Kevin Martin. This game was key for the Euros to win, however the Martin quartet this night (with Don Bartlett calling the game for the most part” took a run-n-gun style approach, blasting everything and anything the Trulsen team could throw at them, running them out of rocks, making the score 7-4 for Martin. “Man we shot well,” Martin noted,” Donny (Walchuk) was unbeliveable…oh yeah, even Donny B (Bartlet), he’s now two and oh’, calling the game here at the MTS Centre.”

Other games saw Pierre Charette run his record to two and two with a 7-6 victory over Glen Howard, who is now at one and two. For the Howard crew, tomorrow they’ll face winless Randy Dutiaume to complete their round-robin portion.

Pat Ryan’s team from Kelowna gave all they had in downing Jeff Stoughton by a score of 7-5. With the win, Ryan sits at two and one and will play winless Mark Johnson on the last draw, while Stoughton (one and two) will face Trulsen (one and two).

Finally, it was John Morris, in an extra end defeating a stubborn Ryan Fry team by a score of 7-5. For Morris, they finish the round-robin at three wins and one loss, while Fry goes winless in his first Grand Slam event.
