Strauss Canada Cup begins Tuesday in Kamloops

Source: Canadian Curling AssociationBrad Gushue of St. John’s and Shannon Kleibrink of Calgary, winners of the Tim Hortons Canadian Curling Trials last December in Halifax, will use the Strauss Canada Cup, now a Season of Champions event, as final preparation for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Italy, where they’ll represent Canada at the curling competition in Pinerolo from February 13-24.
In addition to Gushue, the men’s event also includes record six-time Brier, four time worlds and two-time Canada Cup champion Randy Ferbey and 2002 Olympic silver medallist, two time Brier winner and defending Strauss Canada Cup champion Kevin Martin, both from Edmonton
Amongst the challengers to Kleibrink, who is also the defending ‘Cup’ champion, are Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones, the reigning Canadian women’s champion, three time world champion and 1998 Olympic gold medallist Jan Betker of Regina, 1998 Scott Tournament of Hearts winner Cathy King from Edmonton and Trials runner-up and 1995 world junior champion, Kelowna’s Kelly Scott. Both King and Scott also successfully defended their respective provincial championships on Sunday and thus qualified for the 2006 Scott Tournament of Hearts in London, beginning February 25. … [continued]…
