PARDON THE MESS - But We’re Still Redecorating

10.26.07

* Whew!

I have completely upgraded CurlingBlog.com from wordpress 1.5.1 to the latest wordpress 2.3 version. I have also successfully upgraded both the “Team Gushue” blog and the “Team Kleibrink” blog to the latest wordpress 2.3. And then, I imported all of the posts, pages, and comments from each of these subsidiary blogs into this main Curling Blog’s database.

As such, it may look a little kooky for a while, as I try to better meld the information into a unified *NEW* Curling Blog look .. but, in the meantime I will leave the other blogs up until I’m happy that everything is in its proper place. Afterwards, the other two blogs will be deleted, without notice.

Unfortunately, this template was developed on the wordpress 1.5.x platform, and I have already fixed a few kinks and expect to find more kinks. If you notice anything funny happening with this template, it could be the template - or me! Please drop me a comment in here or via my contact form to let me know what is wrong, and where the error is - it will be much appreciated.

Getting Ready For Curling Season

There will be a more positive approach to blogging here at the Curling Blog 2008 Canadian Mixed Curling Championships, in Calgary Alberta, begin November 10-16, 2007. I will be starting to cover more curling news in this blog during this time, and up to the period of the next major curling championship, all my changes and upgrades to this blog should be completed! (That would be the 2007 Continental Cup of Curling in Medicine Hat, Alberta December 13-16, 2007.

Again … I thank-you for your patience.

A Major Upgrade Is In Progress

10.25.07

Please stand-by …

I am trying to upgrade the CurlingBlog.com from a prehistoric wordpress version (1.5.1) to the latest version (2.3) .. however there will be times of downtime during this progress.

Thank-you for your patience.

Advertiser Appreciation: May 2007

06.04.07

NOTICE:

Effective June 4-8th week there will be no new postings around the HART-Empire Network. You might have already seen a slowdown around my network of blogs in May 2007 - it is all related. I am in the process of moving all my accounts to a new host provider this week (MidPhase) and there may be times during this switchover that this site may not be accessible. I assure you that this will be temporary, and I will take all the efforts to make this transition go as smooth as possible. I’m giving myself the entire week for this move and the switchover basically, because I’ve got a lot of blogs to be moved! I apologize for any inconveniences in advance, and hope you please bear with me during this time.

In the meantime, I have decided to just combine my monthly “Sponsorship Appreciation” posts with this message to keep you informed.

In The News - Newsfeed Added To Our FrontPage Template

01.22.07

Greetings ..

I had engaged a blogger last month - just before Christmas, who is an avid curler and fan of the sport, to assist me and eventually take over the writing duties of the CurlingBlog.com. Unfortunately, that just didn’t pan out .. and I am back to where I was .. with a blog not being maintained with the latest curling news.

So - I’ve rigged the front “index” page to display RECENT CURLING NEWS AND SCORES just below the header. I know it’s not much, but at least it’s something for visitors coming to this site via their bookmarks. You won’t be able to see these headlines in your RSS Feed reader of choice, like Bloglines or Google Reader. In the meantime, I am continuing my search.

Text-Link-Advertising Now Available

10.13.06

You may now advertise on this site in the form of Text Link Ads. I should note that the link in the previous sentence is an affiliate link, and if you do sign up for the first time through this link, I may earn a small commission. I should also note that if you are a new client, you can receive $100.00 worth of FREE Text Link Ads by entering “starting kit” into the promotion code at their checkout. That means you can basically spend maybe $125 worth of advertising this month - and only pay $25! (You don’t have to spend it here - don’t worry!). Text-Link-Ads.com are for a 30 day term, in most cases. If you are interested in a longer-term period, feel free to contact HART.

But if you do want to spend it here .. I am currently offering ten (10) spots for text link ads per month in our sidebar and three (3) spots for text link ads per month in our RSS Feed.

Live Olympic Medal Tracker Added to Curling Blog

02.14.06

I have added a “LIVE” Torino 2006 Medal Tracker in the sidebar of this blog … The medal count will automatically be updated throughout the 2006 Winter Olympics! If you don’t believe me, you can double check the statistics at the official site

The script comes compliments of Matt Maier from Maier and Zinc Photography

matt maier and traverse zink

planning a wedding in the san francisco bay area—napa valley, sacramento, san francisco, oakland, san jose, santa cruz, monterey, or surrounding areas?

maier and zink photography is your choice!

Thanks Matt!

I did “Live Blogging” today ..

02.13.06

Did you watch me? I was experimenting to see if I could do it because, well I haven’t in the past.

I was posting the results of each end for both Team Canada Men’s curling team (aka Team Gushue) and Team Canada Women’s curling team (aka Team Kleibrink) on their respective blogs.

If you are unable to watch or listen or really have time to surf and watch these Live Results yourself … consider adding our RSS Feeds to your feed aggregator … (or Bloglines.com) … so the results will automatically come into your in-box.

TORINO 2006 CURLING - Statistics and Schedule

02.12.06

You will notice a new addition to my sidebar today .. I have added three new sections ..

* TORINO 2006 OLYMPICS CURLING STANDINGS
* SCHEDULE OF GAMES MEN’S CURLING
* SCHEDULE OF GAMES WOMEN’S CURLING

My intention is to update this information MANUALLY (yes, it is just a little template that I created and is not linked to anywhere unfortunately) .. at least once a day No-Matter-What … however if I will be “Live Blogging” some of the Team Canada games either here on Curling Blog, Team Gushue, Team Kleibrink or even Light The Torch blogs then I will probably update it as soon as practical.

This is an interesting article and good reading (i.m.o.) … click on the link at the beginning of the article for a little history of curling and the Belfast Curling Club in Belfast, Maine..

Curling Blog will be moving servers

01.02.06

Greetings ..

After the BDO Classic Canadian Open, I will be moving the following blogs … Curling Blog Team Gushue and Team Kleibrink .. to a different host provider. I just have not been happy with the speed and uptimes for these blogs.

I can’t say how frustrating it is for me in the mornings when the server is at it’s slowest times, or when I have problems posting because I can’t connect to my own server. This blog sucks! It takes too long to load!

Great Curlers in History: My Brother Gerry

12.30.05

Well, I’m a bit biased about this pick. My older brother Gerry was always the greatest curler of all time in MY eyes! I used to watch him and his friends curl all the time at the Granite Curling Club here in Winnipeg, and even played with him and my cousin at the Thistle Curling Club.

If you have any great GERRY Stories .. feel free to add them in the comments of this post ..

“WHAT’S HAPPENING” to be updated regularly

12.05.05

Today I have added the “Adhesive” wordpress plugin that enables “sticky” posts to be made.

>> STICKY POSTS are entries that will always be at the top.

The “WHAT’S HAPPENING RIGHT NOW” entry will constantly be modified and dated every Monday each week to let you know which Curling Events will be covered in this “http://CurlingBlog.com site. For larger events, I will post the end of the day results and for the smaller events, I will post the final results.
