The Brier is returning to Calgary.
The Canadian Curling Association announced Friday that the 2009 Canadian men’s curling championship will be held at Calgary’s Pengrowth Saddledome from March 7-15.
Calgary last hosted the Brier in 2002 — attracting 245,296 fans, the third-highest in tournament history — and has staged the event six times in total.

The 29-year-old skip and her team from Kelowna, B.C., successfully defended its title Sunday afternoon at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alta., defeating Jan Betker of Saskatchewan 8-5 in the final of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian women’s curling championship.

Three teams will fight it out Friday at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alta., to decide the fourth and final playoff berth at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian women’s curling championship.Alberta’s Cheryl Bernard, P.E.I.’s Suzanne Gaudet and Ontario’s Krista Scharf all finished round-robin play Thursday night with victories to finish with 6-5 records. Alberta will play Ontario Friday at 10:30 a.m. (all times Eastern) with the winner advancing to play P.E.I. at 3 p.m. The winner of that game then advances to the Page playoff three-four game against Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones, who finished third with a 9-2 record. The three tiebreaker teams posted 1-1 records against each other, but P.E.I. advanced to the second round of the tiebreaker by virtue of its superior performance in the pre-event skills competition.

After a series of small steps during the past year, Kelly Scott of Kelowna, B.C. made a giant leap yesterday - into tomorrow’s final of the Scott Tournament of Hearts.
Scott played a nearly flawless game in the 1 vs. 2 Page playoff against Nova Scotia’s Colleen Jones, the six-time Canadian women’s champion.
