About the Events

WATCH 2007 WORLD CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The breakout sport of the 2006 Torino Olympics is back! As curling sweeps its way into the spotlight again, both the United States men’s and women’s curling teams are back in action.

The 2007 World Championships are the first opportunity for the nations to earn qualifying points toward the upcoming 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. With both the men and women riding the wave of success from recent years, the teams are hopeful the momentum will carry them to victory at this year’s world championships.

Don’t miss out on all the curling action! Get your All-Access package and watch all matches LIVE or on demand for $19.99 or catch your favorite men’s and women’s competitions for $14.99 each.

Available only in the U.S.A.

Yes .. I know that kind of sucks for Canadian Viewers, but I think this could turn into something interesting by the next Olympics, if a lot of support is given. NBC Sports is partnering up with MediaZone to show the games either LIVE (a high-quality 500k stream) or ON DEMAND (available as a 700k download made available on a daily basis within 24 hours after the match).

What is also neat about this … is that although it’s NBC Sports … commentary is not available on these feeds. Natural sound is included from the event happenings and surroundings .. what it would be if you were in the stands (apparently, as I cannot confirm this of course, being located in Canada).

So - I would be curious if any Curling Fans from U.S.A. want to give this a try .. and let us know how it works out! Here’s the banner again to click - you should be transported to another window.

(GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alberta) - Debbie McCormick’s Team USA was on the losing end of Anette Norberg’s perfect season falling 10-9 to Sweden in the gold-medal game Sunday afternoon at the 2006 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship at the Canada Games Arena in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
“It was a good game,” said McCormick, the 2003 world champion. “We really wanted to win but it was a terrific week. We had a great run at it. I’m proud of my girls. Unfortunately, this one doesn’t have the same shininess as the other one. ”

McCormick (Rio, Wis.) and teammates Allison Pottinger (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Nicole Joraanstad (Madison, Wis.), Natalie Nicholson (Bemidji, Minn.) and Caitlin Maroldo (Rochester, N.Y.) started the game a lot more aggressive than they hoped but it momentarily paid off as Sweden was held to just one point in an end that looked like it had disaster written all over it for the Americans.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. (CP) - Kelly Scott has been dreaming of winning a gold medal for Canada at the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship but Hollywood couldn’t have written a better script Thursday as she battled back for a thrilling overtime win over Norway.

After giving up steals of two in the fourth and fifth ends to Dordi Nordby, Canada was trailing 8-4 after eight. But with the crowd at the Canada Games Arena chanting ”Go Canada Go” Scott scored three points in the ninth and stole a single point in the 10th to tie the game 8-8. Nordby missed on an angle raised takeout with her final stone giving Canada a 9-8 victory and fourth place.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, March 20…Defending champion Anette Norberg and her methodical Swedes paired down the ranks of the undefeated at the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship to themselves on Monday.
And Canada’s Kelly Scott managed to finagle another split out of another hair-raising day on the Canada Games Arena freeze. Sweden defeated Debbie McCormick of the U.S. 8-5 in the morning, then knocked over Denmark’s Madeleine Dupont 8-6 in the afternoon. Dupont was pummelled 9-2 by McCormick in the evening.

The Canucks, meanwhile, wound up facing another pair of hunting parties gunning for the red maple leaf target. “It was our dream to beat Canada,” said 21-year-old Bingyu Wang of Harbin after out-hitting Scott’s Canadian champions 5-4 on the early shift. Scott came back in the afternoon to steal a 7-6 win from Kelly Wood of Scotland when she was off-line on a seven-foot runback with Canada’s winner sitting hidden in the four-foot.

No problem with pressure

03.16.06

Reigning world champions from Sweden now also have Olympic gold medal
DALE WOODARD

Herald-Tribune sportswriter

Anette Norberg knows a thing or two about pressure.

The Swedish skip and her team of third Eva Lund, second Cathrine Lindahl and lead Anna Svärd carried the weight of their country’s expectations on their shoulders into the Turin Olympics last month and came away with the gold medal.

The pressure was there because they were already world champions, having won the title in Paisley, Scotland last year.
