Canada’s Shannon Kleibrink rebounded with a decisive victory in the women’s curling tournament Tuesday morning at the Torino Olympics.

Kleibrink and her Calgary rink scored five in the opening end en route to a 11-5 win in eight ends over Cassie Johnson of the United States.

Canada improved its record to 1-1 with the victory, while the U.S. dropped to 0-2.

Anette Norberg of Sweden, the reigning world champion, defeated Kleibrink 7-5 Monday afternoon in the opening draw of the women’s competition.

Kleibrink’s final shot in the first end knocked Johnson’s rock out of the house to score five.

With Canada up 7-1, the U.S. scored two in the fifth end to close the gap, but Kleibrink scored three in the next end to put the contest out of reach.

Canadian alternate Sandra Jenkins saw some action when she replaced second Amy Nixon at the start of the seventh end.

The U.S. refused to concede and instead battled on, scoring a deuce in the seventh to make it a five-point match. The Americans did call it quits, however, after Canada scored a single in the eighth end.

Kleibrink will have little time to rest as she takes on Russia’s Ludmila Privivkova Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. EST.
