Arnold Asham was absent most of the weekend, but his Valour Road team excelled with a substitute in winning the INTEGRITY STAKES at Winnipeg’s Thistle Curling Club.
With David Bohn in his usual fourth stone position, Dennis Bohn at third, Cory Wolchuk at lead, and Bryan Galbraith subbing at second, the Asham foursome defeated Peter Nicholls of Elmwood 7-1 in the final (Sunday), earning $3,200. The runner-up money was $2,000 for Nicholls. The Asham team also earned a berth in the MCT Championships in Ste. Anne and Steinbach, January 7-9th.
Howie Restall and Dan Kammerlock, both of Valour Road, lost in the semi-finals, receiving $1,000 apiece; Craig Strand of Valour Road, Ryan Hyde of Portage, plus St. Vital clubmates Andrew Wickman and Collin Sundell, earned $500 each for reaching the quarter-finals (32 teams eight qualifiers). Dave Johnson of Deer Lodge won the Consolation event, worth $400.
