Manitoba Curling Tour – Week 3 results
by: MCT Official ReleaseOct 16, 2006 — Ian Beavis of Morden (with Steve Friesen, Ken Friesen, and Mike Orchard) won the men’s division of the AGRICORE UNITED CLASSIC in Beausejour tonight (Sunday), while the women’s title went to reigning Manitoba junior champion Calleen Neufeld of St. Vital (with Sabrina Neufeld, Laryssa Grenkow, and Breanne Meakin).
Beavis handed James Kirkness of Valour Road his only loss of the cashspiel, winning the men’s final 7-5 to earn the top prize of $3,500. Kirkness settled for runner-up money of $1,750.
Neufeld won five straight games in the spiel, topping Darcy Robertson of Fort Rouge 7-6 with a winning deuce on the 10th end in the women’s final, earning $1,500, while Robertson picked up second-place money of $850.
Don Spriggs of Portage and Gary Barkman of Steinbach ($1,000 apiece) lost in the men’s semi-finals, while Murray Woodward of Ste. Anne and Butch Mouck of Dauphin ($700 each) bowed out in the quarter-finals (24 men’s teams-6 qualifiers).
Kaitlyn Lawes of Pembina and Shauna Streich of Fort Rouge were the losing semi-finalists in the women’s division, receiving $550 each (12 women’s teams-4 qualifiers).
Next up on the tour is the CASINOS OF WINNIPEG WOMEN’S CLASSIC, set to start with 32 teams at 8:30 a.m. Friday (Oct.20th) at the Fort Rouge Curling Club.
