Switzerland’s new-look men’s curling team qualified for the final of the 2006 European championships on Friday in Basel, Switzerland.

Skip Andreas Schwaller, who teamed up with former world junior champion skip Ralph Stöckli at third stone just weeks before the tournament, grabbed three points over the final two ends to pull away from Scotland’s David Murdoch 9-5 in the 1-2 Page playoff game to earn a spot in Saturday afternoon’s final.

Schwaller’s opponent will again be Murdoch as the defending world champion beat Sweden’s Per Carlsen 5-2 in the semifinal. ….
